Bhubaneswar: After two days of a nursing student committing a suicide bid, Raighar police have arrested two persons, including the victim’s boyfriend, for allegedly leaking her private photos and videos online.
The victim, a second-year BSc Nursing student from Nabarangpur district, is currently fighting for her life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The condition of the girl is stated to be critical as she battles a multi-organ failure.
The accused have been identified as Satyajit Sarkar and Uddharba Gadanayak.
According to police, Satyajit Sarkar, who had a one-sided love affair with the victim, leaked her intimate photos and videos on social media after she rejected his advances. The photos were allegedly shared by Uddharba Gadanayak, the victim’s partner.
Satyajit had previously assaulted the victim in a marketplace in Jeypore, leading to a police case that was later settled informally. However, driven by anger and bruised feelings, Satyajit allegedly leaked the private photos and videos, leading to the victim’s suicide bid.
The police tracked down Satyajit from a moving bus in Daspalla through mobile tracking, while Uddharba was held from Jeypore. Both have been arrested in connection with the alleged harassment and leaking of private photos.
The victim’s family had lodged a fresh police complaint on Tuesday, leading to the arrests. The police are investigating the matter and have taken the accused into custody.
