At a time when the Japanese Encephalitis (JE) death toll in Malkangiri keeps rising every day, the NVBDCP official on Tuesday said there is no medicine available for the deadly disease.
While media reports said that 82 children have died due to the disease till date including two on Tuesday, the NVBDCP stated that the toll is 71 by Monday.
“The JE death toll varies from one media to another but actually 71 children have died till Monday. While 26 is due to JE and rest 45 for Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES). We are reiterating here that there is no medicine available for JE and AES but supportive treatments can be provided like Dengue,” Pradhan added.
Despite preventative measures taken by both State and Central Governments, the killer disease refused to stop its onslaught over the tribal-dominated districts.
