Bhubaneswar: A number of academicians from eminent academic Institutions in Delhi including Delhi University, JNU, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jamia Milia Islamia and IGNOU appealed to various political parties in Odisha to support Draupadi Murmu as President of India.
The professors strongly felt that it is a matter of great pride for every Odia that for the first time in the history of India, a person from Odisha got nominated for the highest post of our country. Hailing from a humble background, Murmu, who has proved herself in various roles; as a government servant, a minister and a Governor has inspired many through her nomination for the prestigious office.
The academic forum which is a think tank has been actively raising the issues of importance for Odisha and in the interest of the nation, including former Vice Chancellors, Deans, Principals and faculty members from various educational institutions.
Prominent names include Prof Dinabandhu Sahoo, former Vice Chancellor FM University and Director, Centre for Himalayan Studies, University of Delhi, Prof Balaram Pam, Dean of Colleges, DU and Bijayalaxmi Nanda, Principal, Miranda House, Dr Netrananda Sahu, Delhi School of Economics, Dr Basanta Das, Hindu College, Dr Nityananda Agasti, DDU College, Prof S N Nayak, IIT Delhi, Prof Baishnab Tripathy from JNU and Former VC, Ravenshaw University and Subhakanta Mahapatra IGNOU, Prof Saroj Mahananda Jamia Milia Islamia, and Prof P K Sahoo DIPSAR University.
The forum appeals that, all political parties based in Odisha, cutting across their affiliation should come out in full support of the daughter of Odisha in the upcoming presidential election.
