Odia Short Film ‘Farchaaa’ To Be Screened At Mumbai Film Festival

**Bhubaneswar:** A 25-minute short Odia film, ‘Farchaa’ has been selected to be screened at the 19th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, a weeklong festival starting at October 12. This film has been made by Odisha boy Sisir Kumar Sahu.

Talking to OMMCOM NEWS, Sisir Sahu said, ”It is a matter of pride that an Odia film will be screened in Mumbai’s film festival. The whole film is shot in Cuttack. This is my first independent project and I am elated by the fact that it has been selected under ‘LARGE SHORT FILMS’ category to be screened in Mumbai.”

‘Farchaa’ meaning dawn in Odia has created ripples as it gives a new treatment to the age-old social issues to which every family can relate. This film is produced by Sahu’s wife Peenake Singh Rajput.

Sisir is an alumnus of Biju Patnaik Film and Television Institute, Cuttack and has an enriching experience of five years with stalwart filmmakers like Shyam Benegal and Ashutosh Gowariker.

“My first major break was to work with Shyam Benegal on the 10-part television series on making of Indian Constitution for Rajya Sabha TV. It was a research project. Then I worked with Ashutosh Gowariker’s Star Plus series ‘Everest’. It is only after I worked as a as an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowarikar for Hrithik Roshan-starrer ‘Mohenjo Daro’, I thought of working on my independent project ‘Farchaa’ and began developing the concept,” informed the 30-yr-old filmmaker.

The festival is conducted under the aegis of the Mumbai Academy of the moving Image (MAMI). It will showcase 220 films from 49 countries and in 51 languages. It showcases the latest cutting edge, independent cinema and art house films alongside genre movies from Bollywood, Hollywood and also cult international movies.
