Bhubaneswar: Renowned Odia translator and journalist Suvash Satapathy has been awarded the prestigious  Sahitya Akademi Prize for Translation for the year 2024.

The accolade recognizes his exceptional contribution to literature through the Odia translation of Ruskin Bond’s autobiography, Lone Fox Dancing, titled Kokishialira Ekaka Nrutya. The Sahitya Akademi announced the award on Friday.

According to a press release of the Sahitya Akademi,  the prize includes a cash award of ₹50,000 and a copper plaque, which will be presented to Satapathy along with 20 other awardees later this year.

This year’s selection panel for the Odia translation category comprised poet Amaresh Pattnaik, along with distinguished literary figures Pravasini Mahakud and Monalisa Jena.

The Akademi also noted that awards for Nepali and Sanskrit languages will be announced at a later date, while no award will be given for the Urdu language this year.
