Odisha: 160 Arrested, Fined For Drunken Driving In Last 24 Hours

Bhubaneswar: As many as 160 people were arrested and/or fined in the State for drunk driving during a twenty-four-hour anti-liquor drive, police said.

Of the total arrests, the highest of 27 was made in Ganjam district with lowest of one each in Khurda and Cuttack districts.

The arrested would be forwarded to court soon, said Police.

The State government on November 28 had extended the relaxation period by another three months to the public to ensure compliance with various provisions of the amended the Motor Vehicles Act. Commerce & Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera has however stressed that there will be strict enforcement against dangerous life-threatening actions.

Previously too a relaxation on traffic enforcement for three months was announced by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. He had then requested citizens to follow traffic rules as the objective of new MV Act was road safety.
