Odisha: 26,689 Persons Arrested During Night Patrolling In 3 Yrs

Bhubaneswar: As many as 26,689 persons were arrested during night patrolling in the last three years-2017, 2018 and 2019, informed Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra in the Odisha Assembly today.

In a written reply to BJD member from Bhandaripokhari Prafulla Samal, Mishra told the House that in order to contain crime on National Highways (NHs) and State Highways (SHs) in the State, mainly mobile patrolling, anti-dacoity patrolling, beat patrolling, foot patrolling, evening patrolling etc have been implemented for bolstering night patrolling by the police.

The Minister has stated that a total of 736 vehicles which includes four-wheelers and two-wheelers; 3,485 police personnel, 4,991 home guards have been deployed for the purpose.

That apart, 521 supervising officers have been given the responsibility to oversee the work of the aforementioned police personnel and home guards, he added.

Further, to reduce accidents and curb crime, the State government has approved the introduction of highway patrolling on four NHs and one SH, Mishra informed.

As many as 119 retired police officer and 36 patrolling vehicles will be utilized for the purpose, he added.
