Odisha: 3 Cops Held For ‘Looting’ Businessman In Cuttack

Cuttack: Irony unfolded itself as three cops were held by police for allegedly looting Rs 1.5 lakh from a businessman on pretext of frisking his car near Nirgundi toll gate in Cuttack on Thursday night.

Two Home Guards Santosh Mallik and Braja Kishore Pradhan and constable Jogendra Pani were held on Friday.

The trio disguised themselves as Commissionerate Police officials, intercepted a car heading to Puri from Kolkata and looted all cash from the vehicle. After the incident, the victim went to file a complaint at Tangi Police Station only to find the same cops there, who tried to settle the matter by returning Rs 1.03 lakh.

However, based on the information provided by victim’s advocate Samaresh Jena, an inquiry was conducted under supervision of Choudwar SDPO.

Investigation revealed that the accused were on patrolling duty on Thursday night along with a lady Sub-Inspector. After arriving near the Nirgundi toll gate, the accused trio stepped out of the police vehicle on pretext of attending nature’s call. It was when they intercepted the businessman’s car and allegedly looted the said amount.

Cuttack Rural SP Radha Binod Panigrahi informed that the allegation have proved to be true. As the victim identified as Sarat Dey of Brahmagiri did not turn up to lodge the FIR, Tangi Police Station IIC registered a case and arrested the trio.
