Nabarangpur: Thirty bonded labourers, including minors, were rescued from Umerkote on late Sunday while they were being trafficked to Visakhapatnam in a bus.
The cops acted on a tip-off when they stopped the bus at Majhiguda Chaka. Upon searching, the trafficking racket was exposed. As per reports, all of the rescued belong to Kandagaon village of Chattisgarh.
After proper investigation, Nabrangpur Labour Officer handed over the custody of the minor girls to Children Welfare Committee (CWC). He added that under Collector’s order a team will be comprised consisting of Police officials, Labour department officials and members of CWC. The team is charged with responsibility of making sure that the labourers make home.
Two middlemen were also present in the bus who failed to provide any valid documentation. They have been held for further questioning.
Umerkote Police have initiated further investigation into the matter.
