Khurda: In a shocking incident, a 5-year-old was allegedly raped by a man and later murdered at Mundia Sahi in Jatni here late last night. Following the incident, the accused was hospitalized after locals took matter into their own hands and mercilessly thrashed the youth.
According to the police complaint filed by the girl’s parents, she had gone out to get onions from a relative’s place nearby when the accused Ananda raped and murdered her. After hours of searching, the girl was found in Ananda’s home, wrapped in a cloth and blood oozing out of her body.
The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her dead. Then, the accused youth was nabbed and brutally thrashed by locals. He was handed over to the cops, who shifted him to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in a critical condition.
On the other hand, protest has erupted over the minor girl’s rape and murder as locals have staged a road blockade demanding action against the accused. Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo reached the spot to take stock of the situation and one platoon of police force was deployed there.
