Bhubaneswar: In a high-level review meeting held at Rajiv Bhawan today, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Water Resources, Anu Garg, assessed the progress of Vision 2036/2047, with a sharp focus on transforming Odisha’s water resource management landscape.
Key areas discussed during the session included the expansion of irrigation infrastructure, enhancement of water storage and conservation capacity, promotion of water use efficiency, adoption of digital and smart water management technologies, and the strengthening of governance and policy frameworks.
A major target under the vision is the creation of irrigation potential in 15 lakh hectares over the next five years, including 2.77 lakh hectares in the financial year 2025–26 alone. These efforts aim to ensure sustainable water availability for agriculture and overall rural development.
Senior officers and engineers present at the meeting were directed to pursue approvals for pending schemes, prioritize completion of major and high-impact projects, and accelerate expenditure to meet targets in a time-bound manner.
The Vision 2036/2047 roadmap aligns with Odisha’s long-term strategy to build climate resilience, ensure water security, and enable inclusive agricultural growth across regions vulnerable to erratic rainfall and water scarcity.
