Bhubaneswar: As the winged guests enhance the beauty of Odisha coastline during this winter, the officials have started the bird census at various wildlife ranges and water bodies. Around 1000 officials, divided into 25 teams, are engaged in the counting exercise. It commenced at Satkosia Wildlife Division today, and will be done at Chilika Lake tomorrow. According to a forest official, entry of tourists will also be restricted for the first two weeks during the census.
Moreover, the counting will be held at Bhitarkanika and Hirakud on January 6. The fishing will be prohibited in Mahanadi River system during the period.
Meanwhile, a team of 23 people including experts, environmentalists and wildlife officials are carrying out a crocodile census at Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapada.
