Khurda: The Forest department has begun dolphin census in Chilika lake and Bhitarkanika National Park in Ganjam and Kendrapara districts, today.
The annual counting of dolphins began at 7 am today and will continue till 1 pm. 12 teams constituting of 50 members is undertaking the census, said Chilika DFO Alok Ranjan Hota.
For the first time, the dolphin census in the lake is being conducted with GPS tracking the binocular, added Hota. The final report will be submitted after the counting and the analysis is completed.
Accordingly, the plying of motorised boats for fisherfolks and tourists has been closed for the day.
