Bhubaneswar: The Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly Surama Padhy adjourned the House today after a condolence motion was moved by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to pay tribute to the departed leaders.
According to reports, the fourth session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly commenced today. Upon arrival, Speaker Surama Padhy was greeted with a police band salute, followed by the singing of the national anthem.
The leaders who were remembered include former Minister Rajendra Dholakia, former Deputy Speaker and Union Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Singh Mardaraj, former MLAs Prasanna Kumar Patnaik, Karendra Majhi, Niranjan Hembram, Prafulla Kumar Bhanja, and Mohammad Rafiq.
Opposition leader Prasanna Acharya and Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam supported the condolence motion and expressed their condolences to the bereaved families.
Speaker recalled the contributions and good deeds done by the deceased members during their tenure. The House observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to the departed leaders, and the Speaker announced that the House’s condolences would be conveyed to the bereaved families. Following the condolence motion, Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
