Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 12:09 pm today due to pandemonium over women’s safety and medical education issues. The opposition Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) legislators protested near the Speaker’s podium, holding placards and raising slogans forcing the Speaker to adjourn the proceedings.
As per reports, the BJD demanded reservation in medical education, while the Congress protested over women’s safety issues. The BJD had demanded 27% reservation for SC/ST and OBC students in medical education. On the other hand, the Congress members also protested over the government’s handling of women’s safety issues.
The House witnessed a commotion, with members of Congress shouting slogans, waving placards and using gongs and bells to express their dissent and grab attention.
