Bhubaneswar: The Monsoon Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly came to an early close on Wednesday, with Speaker Surama Padhy adjourning the House sine die a day before schedule.
The decision followed a proposal moved by the Government’s chief whip, who cited the absence of further official business and the onset of the Dussehra festivities.
The Session, which began on September 18, was originally slated to run until September 25 for seven working days. However, the Assembly conducted business on six days before being adjourned.
During the brief Session, two Bills were passed, including the Odisha Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
The Monsoon Session also witnessed political friction, with the Congress Legislature Party serving a notice for a no-confidence motion against the BJP government on the opening day.
The Opposition had accused the government of failing to address critical issues such as crimes against women, agrarian distress, unemployment, and the exploitation of Dalits and Adivasis. The motion, however, did not progress.
Speaker Padhy rejected the notice on September 22, ruling it out for discussion.
