Bhubaneswar: Proceedings of the second phase of the Budget Session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly was adjourned till 11.30 am on Monday following uproarious scenes in the House over Subhadra Yojana.

Contrary to the government’s plan to offer the scheme to select women, the Opposition MLAs demanded that women belonging to all sections be included in the Subhadra Yojana.

Soon after the House assembled for the day, BJD members rushed into the well of the House protesting against the Subhadra guidelines. They demanded that all women be given the financial support of Subhadra Yojana irrespective of their economic status.

The Opposition BJD members created ruckus near the Speaker’s podium alleging that the promises made before the launch of Subhadra yojana have not been fulfilled.

Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik said, “What kind of business would one start by Rs 5,000 and become self reliant? The way women have been cheated is unfortunate. They (BJP) had bagged votes by claiming that they would give Rs 50,000 at one go and now they will pay Rs 5,000 in each installment.”

As the pandemonium continued, Speaker Surama Padhi adjourned the House till 11.30 am.

Question Hour could not be conducted due to the BJD members’ protest.
