Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 12:09 pm today after opposition parties created a ruckus over women’s safety concerns.
As per reports, the uproar began during the question hour, with BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra making remarks that were strongly objected to by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) members. Congress members also joined the protest, alleging a rise in crime against women in the state.
The House witnessed chaotic scenes as the members of opposition parties BJD and Congress protested, alleging that the government was not taking adequate measures to prevent women’s atrocities. BJD and Congress MLAs created a ruckus under the Speaker’s podium.
As the protests escalated, Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the House till 12:09 pm. Despite repeated appeals for calm, the opposition members continued to shout slogans and wave placards, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House.
