Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly witnessed heavy pandemonium today due to protests by Congress MLAs, despite 12 out of 14 of them being suspended from the House for indiscipline. Speaker Surama Padhy was forced to adjourn the House till tomorrow, as the lawmakers continued their agitation inside the House.
The Congress party has been demanding a House Committee to address women’s safety. Despite the suspension, the legislators continued their dharna in the well of the House, and Speaker Padhy’s direction to vacate the place went unheeded. The situation escalated, with Congress members rushing to the Speaker’s podium and playing traditional musical instruments, despite repeated requests to return to their seats.
Speaker Padhy emphasized that the suspension was necessary to maintain order and uphold parliamentary decorum. The suspended MLAs will not be allowed to participate in House proceedings for the next seven working days.
Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati stated that the party members will not leave the House and will continue their dharna until a House Committee is formed.
