**Bhubaneswar: ** The third day of the most significant Budget Session of Odisha Assembly also got marred like day two due to pandemonium created by opposition Congress and BJP over farmers’ issues following which the House has to be adjourned repeatedly.
Eventually after passing the thanks giving motion on Governor’s address delivered on the inaugural day, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat adjourned the House till tomorrow while opposition Congress and BJP staged a walk out.
When the House assembled today, obituary reference was made in favour of senior BJD leader and member of Lok Sabha from Aska parliamentary constituency Ladu Kishore Swain who breathed his last at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on the day.
Replying to thanks giving motion, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “Odisha is now on the path of rapid transformation and is distinctly positioned as a progressive State setting national and even global benchmarks. Odisha’s economy is firmly on a trajectory of steady growth. Odisha is the only State in the country which has doubled farmers’ income in real terms in the last one decade. The State is now among the largest contributors to the public distribution system.”
The CM also said, “Our flagship health initiative namely Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana is unique in the country as it provides almost universal health coverage covering 3.5 crore people. We launched KALIA, Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation, a path-breaking initiative widely appreciated in the country and the Union Government adopted the Scheme. However, the Union Government has left out the share croppers, landless labourers. It is also unique in the entire country covering 92 percent of the cultivators, loanee as well as non-loanee farmers, share croppers and landless agricultural labourers.”
In his reply, the CM also mentioned about increased irrigation facility for additional 10 lakh hectares, State Food Security Scheme, Ama Gaon Ama Bikash, PEETHA, Mission Shakti, Madhu Babu Pension Yojana, Make in Odisha Conclave grand success, Startup Policy, ABADHA scheme, Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup, High Performance Centres for games and sports, transparent governance, etc.
“We are firmly on the path of equitable and inclusive growth and we are well poised for further acceleration in the economic growth rate. We will continue our endeavour to empower all sections of the people,” concluded the Odisha Chief Minister in his reply to the thanks giving motion.
In his media reactions earlier in the day, senior Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati said, “Prior to the Assembly session also the Leader of Opposition had raised the MSP issue. Only Congress has often raised the farmers’ issues in the Assembly. Our party has also raised the unemployment issue concerning the youths. We have been demanding unemployment allowance and farm loan waiver. These demands will also continue in future and this fight will also be taken to the streets.”
BJP MLA Pradeep Purohit reacted, “The farmers have paddy but the millers are reducing the amount and purchasing paddy at an under rate. The farmers are not getting MSP Rs 1750. Hundreds of crores of money has been looted from the farmers at the Mandis. BJP today raised the issue and demanded probe into it.”
Senior BJD MLA Sanjay Das Burma countered, “Government was ready to discuss on the issue of distress sale of paddy. When the House was fully ready to cooperate, the BJP Legislature Party leader prompted the party MLAs to created disturbance in the well of the House so that there will be no discussion. It’s extremely unfortunate. Such a scene is completely rare in the history of democracy. We condemn it.”
