Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly Deputy Speaker Rajanikanth Singh tendered his resignation from the post on Wednesday on ‘personal grounds’. On Wednesday afternoon, Singh went to the Assembly building and submitted his resignation to Speaker Pramila Mallick.
Singh, a member of the Odisha Assembly since 2004, has been serving as the Deputy Speaker since 2019. He represents the Angul Assembly constituency in the House. Prior to becoming the Deputy Speaker, Singh served as the Minister for Mines in Naveen Patnaik Cabinet from 2012 to 2014.
Later, talking to the media, Singh said he gave up his post to work for the people in his constituency as he was unable to undertake political work as a Deputy Speaker of the House. “Henceforth, I will work for the party and organisation. I want to strengthen the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in my region,” he added.
