Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed a ruckus on Tuesday, with Speaker Surama Padhy adjourning the House till 4 pm due to the pandemonium created by opposition members.
As per reports, the House proceedings were disrupted due to intense protests from opposition parties, including Congress and BJD. The chaos erupted during the question hour session, with members from both parties creating a commotion and rushing to the podium.
The situation spiraled out of control when Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati and BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra engaged in a heated argument, which almost turned physical. Speaker Surama Padhy was forced to adjourn the House twice, first until noon and then again until 4 pm, in an attempt to restore order.
It is learnt that the opposition parties were protesting over various issues, including the alleged rise in crimes against women and the state government’s handling of the situation. Congress members also climbed onto the reporter’s table, shouting slogans and waving placards.
The BJP members, on the other hand, were countering the allegations, leading to a war of words between the two parties. The pandemonium continued for several hours, compelling the Speaker to adjourn the House till 4 pm.
