Bhubaneswar: Statutory Committees and Subject Committees of the Odisha Assembly will follow practice and procedures followed in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha informed Speaker Surya Narayan Patro.
Patro had called a meeting of Chairpersons of different Statutory Committees and Subject Committees of the Odisha Assembly today.
"They were advised to adopt practice and procedures followed in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. They all agreed to do the same," the Speaker said.
Patro stated that as per parliamentary practice any subject matter expert can be invited to a Subject Committee meeting to give a talk on the subject.
The subject matter expert can be a person of the State or from elsewhere in the country, he added.
The Speaker said during the talk by the subject expert no government officers will remain present and the subject expert can enlighten the members of the committee.
He added that the members will be free to ask questions to the subject expert to clear their doubts.
Patro stated that the arrangement for the talk by the subject expert will be made by the Vidhan Sabha.
Following the talk by the subject expert, the committee will hold its meeting, he added.
