**Bhubaneswar: ** A unanimous resolution was passed in the Odisha Assembly today to name Jharsuguda Airport after eminent freedom fighter and son of the soil Veer Surendra Sai.
The resolution was moved by Odisha Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vikram Keshari Arukh on behalf of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
A proposal regarding the same will be sent to the Civil Aviation Ministry.
The Odisha Chief Minister has already written twice to Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu to name the Jharsuguda Airport after Veer Surendra Sai.
Reiterating Odisha Government’s request, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has already urged in his latest letter to Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu that the State Government has been requesting that Jharsuguda Airport be named after Veer Surendra Sai, a well known freedom fighter of Odisha who hailed from the place and which would be a befitting tribute to the legendary son of the soil.
Notably, the renovation and modernization of Jharsuguda Airport has been completed and it will be formally inaugurated and dedicated to the nation on September 22 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
