Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly had uproarious scenes on Tuesday soon after the Question Hour as the opposition BJP and Congress as well as the ruling BJP members created a ruckus over the ‘Minister Naba Das murder probe’ and ‘Center’s step-motherly treatment of Odisha’ respectively. Finding it difficult to run the unruly House, Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha adjourned it till 4.00 pm.
While the Question Hour passed off peacefully, BJP members stood up on their respective seats and shouted slogans demanding a CBI probe into Naba Das’s murder and ‘deteriorating law and order in the state’.
BJP leader and LoP in the Assembly Jaynarayan Mishra said that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who is also the Home Minister, was absent in the House during a discussion on an important topic such as the law and order situation in the state. He alleged that the Chief Minister had deliberately chosen to be in Mumbai to receive an award to avoid replying to the issue.
The Congress members also created a ruckus over the issue alleging that members of the ruling are involved in Naba Das’s murder. They further alleged that though a month has lapsed since Naba Das was gunned down by Gopal Krishna Das in Jharsuguda, the government is yet to spell out the motive behind the crime.
Then again, BJD members tried to counter the Opposition by raising the PM-Awas issue in the House. Members of the treasury bench alleged that the Center’s treatment towards the state was step-motherly in allocating pucca houses to the people of Odisha under the PM-Awas Yojana was concerned.
Later, both the ruling BJD and the BJP took to the street over their respective issues.
