**Bhubaneswar**: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) claimed that the dawn-to-dusk Odisha bandh called by the party on Tuesday over Mahanadi issue was a ‘total success’.
The 12-hour strike was supported by people from all walks of life including a number of institutions across the State for which the party will remain grateful, Harichandan said.
“We are thankful and grateful for the people of Odisha who have rendered their support to make the strike successful today. This is a warning for both Odisha and Chhattisgarh Governments. This is not the end, we will continue our fight to save Mahanadi for benefits of people of Odisha,” the OPCC chief told media persons at the party office here.
Similarly, senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly Narasingha Mishra also thanked people for making the shutdown successful.
“We thank all people who made today’s bandh a success and at the same time we regret for the inconvenience caused to the citizens during the strike,” Mishra said.
The Congress heavyweight added that to achieve the goal some difficulties have to be faced.
On the other hand, the BJP and BJD criticized and said the strike call by the Congress wouldn’t create any impact and people of Odisha know what Congress did for the State.
“The Congress in Odisha is divided now and it’s (strike) an attempt to patch up their internal differences rather solving the main issue,” claimed State BJP General Secretary Prithivraj Harichandan.
