Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Language, Literature and Culture Department on Monday wrote to all District Magistrates and SPs to clamp down on obscene, ambiguous dialogues and dance performances on Jatra, music and dance programmes.
In a letter, the department allowed holding dance and song performances during festivals stipulating that all performances must be shorn of obscenity, vulgarity and political overtones.
Directing the police to allow the events, the letter read that “there should not be any kind of obscene dance or vulgar dialogues during the performance by any one of the participants.”
Directing the local authorities to incorporate all the conditions prescribed by the department while granting permission, the letter made it clear that the police are at liberty to take action as per the law if there is any violation of the conditions.
Reacting to the ban, senior Jatra artiste and secretary of Odisha Jatra Kalakar Mahasangh Bapi Panda welcome the move and sought cooperation from people from all walks of life for its effective implementation.
