Cuttack: The Odisha State Bar Council has suspended Archana Nag from practicing as an advocate and initiated disciplinary proceedings against her, citing fraudulent concealment of criminal cases during her enrollment.
In a press release, Bar Council President Sitanshu Mohan Dwivedi stated that Nag deliberately withheld information about multiple criminal cases pending against her while submitting her advocate registration form. Despite being required to disclose such details in points 14, 15, 16, 17, and 20(b) of the application, she falsely declared that no cases were pending and that she was not engaged in any business or profession.
Later, it was revealed that several cases under different sections are under trial against her. Further, records show that Nag is a director of two companies, a fact she also failed to disclose, in violation of the Advocates Act, 1961. The Council noted that these omissions amounted to deceit and fraudulent misrepresentation.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the Bar Council, in its general meeting on 14 September 2025, resolved to suspend Nag’s right to practice law and to pursue disciplinary action against her. The decision reinforces the Council’s role as the supreme regulatory body for legal education and the legal profession in the state.
