Odisha Begins Preparations To Hold Three-Tier Panchayat Poll In Kotia

Koraput: The three-tier panchayat polls will be held in Kotia panchayat as and when notified by the State Election Commission (SEC) for holding such elections in the State, informed Koraput Collector Abdaal M. Akhtar.

“As and when the SEC will notify for holding of elections, the three-tier polls will be conducted timely in all villages of Kotia as per the democratic mandate,” said Akhtar to reporters on being sought for his reaction on neighbouring Andhra Pradesh declaring results of polls held for two of its Mandal constituencies. He added that it has come to his notice.

The Koraput Collector emphasized that the so-called Mandal elections conducted by neighbouring State were not held within the boundary of Kotia.

He told that those voters who reside in the Andhra side of the territory had voted and that their so-called candidates have been elected.

“There is no doubt that geographically Kotia is an integral part of Odisha. Only elected representatives and officials of Odisha shall be allowed to work. No official of any outside State or the so-called election winners will be permitted to erect permanent infrastructure in Kotia,” the Koraput Collector clarified.

It may be pointed out here that the Andhra Pradesh government on Sunday announced the election results of three members for Mandal Parisad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC) conducted from the disputed panchayat.

Last week, Revenue Secretary Bishnupada Sethi along with senior bureaucrats had visited disputed Kotia to review development works in the border areas.
