**Bhubaneswar:** The denizens of Bhubaneswar have welcomed the plastic ban stating the public awareness is a key to successful implementation of the policy. OMMCOM NEWS caught up with people of the Temple City on their views on this important policy decision implemented country-wide.
“The plastic ban will be beneficial for people and environment. Thermocol and polythene has spolied the flora and fauna of a beautiful city like Bhubaneswar. To implement the ban in letter and spirit, awareness should be created among the denizens to shun plastic bags,” said Sk Nizamuddin, Corporator, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
“We are into a business and prefer the use of polythene bags because the customers demand so. However, we do not encourage the use of plastics. We would welcome the ban and urge customers to carry carry bags from home and also encourage usage of paper bags,” Pranabandhu Swain, a Local Trader said.
“If the shopkeepers do not keep plastic bags with them, the consumers will be forced to bring bags from home. I am of the opinion that the shopkeepers should be checked and the companies manufacturing polythene bags need to be shut. These two basic steps can make ours a polythene-free society,” A Raju, an NGO activist said.
“The polythene ban will be surely successful but it will take some time with a lot of awareness generation,” Daitani Harichandan a resident of Bhubaneswar said.
“Polythene is such a material which is non-destructable. Human beings’ life is restricted within an age-factor, but polythene has no age limit. This ban should have come before. This material is extremely polluting substance and the public should ensure that they stop usage of polythene bags,” Sovagini Mohapatra a resident of Bhubaneswar said.
