Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) targeted BJP for admitting senior leader Damodar Rout into its folds. Soon after he officially joined the saffron party at Delhi today evening, BJD leaders said that both Rout and the BJP are deprived of basic principles.

BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra said that BJP has held protests against Rout, time and again, whenever the veteran leader coughed up controversial remarks.

"Whether it was a remark about a particular sect, or women, BJP leaders have never shied away from taking to the streets. Now they have welcomed him with open arms. It is disgraceful and distasteful," he said.

Patra added that Rout was ousted from the BJD in the past and whatever step he took was immaterial and would have no impact on the party.
