Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will elect its new president in January 2025, according to Vijaypal Singh Tomar, the party’s state in-charge.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Tomar confirmed that the state president’s election will follow the conclusion of organisational polls at district levels.
“Booth committees have already been formed, and elections at the Mandal level are underway. Once district-level elections are completed, the state president will be elected in the first week of January 2025,” he stated.
Highlighting the party’s democratic ethos, Tomar emphasized that any dedicated party worker is eligible for the top post. “The BJP is a democratic party where a normal worker can rise to become the president,” he said.
Manmohan Samal is the current BJP president in Odisha and is widely credited for the party’s historic achievements in the recent elections.
Under his leadership, the BJP made remarkable strides, securing 78 of 147 seats in the state assembly and bringing an end to Naveen Patnaik’s 24-year rule as Chief Minister. The party also achieved a near-sweep in the Lok Sabha elections, winning 20 of the state’s 21 seats, a feat described as unprecedented.
