Bhubaneswar: In honour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, the Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a 15-day “Seva Pakhwada” from September 17 to October 2, aligning with Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti.
Addressing the media, Odisha BJP General Secretary Dr. Jatin Mohanty said the initiative reflects the spirit of “service as the highest form of duty” and aims to promote welfare activities across the state.
Key programmes will include:
- Cleanliness Drives and Blood Donation Camps: To begin on September 17 at the state level and continue from September 19 to 27 at the Mandal (local) level.
- Health Camps: Free medical check-ups to be organised in PHCs, CHCs, medical colleges, and private clinics across the state.
- Exhibitions and Campaigns: A state-level exhibition on PM Modi’s life will open on September 17, followed by district-level exhibitions from September 18 to 29. The “Vocal for Local” campaign will also be promoted through fairs and exhibitions to support local products and artisans.
- Competitions and Cultural Events: A painting competition themed “Viksit Bharat” will be held. Intellectual discussions and film screenings on PM Modi’s life are scheduled for September 19–20, along with book distributions in schools, colleges, libraries, and panchayat offices from September 19–27.
- Special Observances:
- September 20: Coastal Cleanliness Drive (International Coastal Clean-up Day)
- September 21: Modi Vikas Marathon
- September 25: Deendayal Upadhyaya Jayanti to be marked across blocks and districts
- September 25–26: Felicitation of dignitaries and differently-abled individuals
- October 2: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti, with a Parliamentarian Sports Competition
A preparatory workshop was held at the BJP State Office under the leadership of State President Manmohan Samal. It was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, State Prabhari Vijaypal Singh Tomar, National Secretary Dr. Arvind Menon, ST & SC Development Minister Nityananda Gond, and State General Secretary (Organisation) Manas Mohanty.
Dr. Mohanty confirmed that similar workshops will be held at district and mandal levels to ensure smooth execution of the ‘Seva Pakhwada’ programmes.
