Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has setup two enforcement squads to keep a watch on illegal disposal of faecal sludge and septage at several places of the city. The squads will comprise of officials of the BMC, Police, Traffic and RTOs who will monitor the disposal at seven locations in Bhubaneswar.
The vulnerable places have been identified as road side drains on both side of Baramunda bus stop flyover (towards Khandagiri), drain near Cosmopolis housing complex, Khandagiri, roadside drain between Fire Station Square and CRP Square and those between Jayadev Vihar Square and Acharya Vihar Square, sewers passing between club town, Patia, Lingipur to Palasuni (by-pass road) and Silicon village to Sikharchandi Chowk .
Apart from these, the squads will also keep an eye on other places in the city as and when they get information about illegal disposal. They will also ensure that the sludge of the impounded vehicles is emptied at the Basuaghai treatment plant in Bhubaneswar.
The order further said the enforcement squads will impose penalties on violators as per the schedule II of the FSSM regulation 2018. This apart, the officials will ensure that the sludge of the impounded vehicle is emptied at Basuaghai treatment plant. In an order, the BMC yesterday said people will have to pay a penalty of Rs 200 for open defecation and Rs 150 for open urination.
