Bhubaneswar: Odisha sizzled in heat as mercury in 12 stations crossed the 40 degree Celsius mark, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Five out of these stations recorded temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius and above.
Baripada was the hottest place in the State recording the highest temperature of day-42.6 degrees Celsius.
The 12 stations that recorded temperatures of 40 degrees and above are Boudh (42.0), Sonepur (42.1), Titilagarh (41.6), Bolangir (42.5), Bhawanipatna (40.8), Talcher (40.2), Hirakud (40.9), Sundargarh (41.0), Sambalpur (41.4), Jharsuguda (42.4), Baripada (42.6), and Angul (41.9).
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded maximum temperatures of 37.0 degrees Celsius and 36.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
The seaside town of Gopalpur was the coolest place in the State recording 30.5 degrees Celsius followed by Paradip (31.7) and Puri (32.8).
