Bhubaneswar: Blistering heatwave conditions prevailed in Odisha today with Sonepur being the hottest place in the State by registering 44.4 degrees Celsius. It is the highest temperature recorded in the State in the current year, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Similarly, nine places in the State recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees or more.
As many as 21 places in the State recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees and above.
These places are Angul (43.1), Baripada (41.0), Jharsuguda (42.8), Keonjhar (40.2), Sambalpur (42.4), Sundargarh (42.5), Hirakud (41.6), Bhawanipatna (42.0), Bolangir (44.3), Titilagarh (43.5), Talcher (40.6), Bhadrak (40.0), Dhenkanal (40.0), Deogarh (42.0), Bargarh (40.5), Nuapada (41.0), Khordha (40.0), Sonepur (44.4), Boudh (43.0), Paralakhemundi (41.0), and Malkangiri (40.0).
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded 37.0 and 37.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
The seaside town of Gopalpur remained the coolest place with 30.1 degrees Celsius followed by Puri with 32.6 and Paradip with 33.5.
The weatherman has predicted that in interior parts of the State temperature is likely to remain 3 to 4 degrees above normal over the next two days.
