Odisha Braces For Extremely Heavy Rainfall As Low Pressure Forms In Bay Of Bengal

Bhubaneswar: Under influence of yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh and neighbourhood, a low pressure area has formed over North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood. Accordingly, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rainfall in almost all districts of Odisha and heavy rainfall for rest of the State.

Till tomorrow morning, Orange Warning or heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar. A Yellow Warning or heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Puri, Sundargarh, and Deogarh.

For the next day, i.e. till the morning of August 26, a Red Warning has been issued. Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, and Deogarh. Additionally, IMD has also warned of waterlogging, flash floods and landslides.

Also, an Orange Warning or heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places for the districts of Puri, Khordha, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Boudh, Balangir and Kandhamal. A Yellow Warning or heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, and Koraput.

The Red Warning is extended for August 27 as well. Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Bargarh, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Deogarh. An Orange Warning or heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Angul, and Keonjhar. Additionally, a Yellow Warning or heavy rainfall at isolated places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Jajpur has been predicted.

For August 28, the IMD predicts a Yellow Warning or Heavy rainfall at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar.

Till the morning of August 29, light to moderate rain or thundershower is expected to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha.
