Bhubaneswar: Odisha is bracing for another wet spell as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain in seven districts of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. Several areas in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada districts are likely to experience light to moderate rain on these two days.
According to the weather office, a depression is currently active in the Bay of Bengal. On Sunday evening, it was deep in the sea, away from the coast of the southwest Bay of Bengal but its direction has changed after the change in wind speed. It will remain in the central west Bay of Bengal and, under its influence; there will be rain in the state on the December 24 and 25.
On December 24, light to moderate rainfall will occur in coastal districts. Rain is likely in all coastal and adjoining districts from Balasore to Ganjam. On the December 25, moderate to heavy rainfall will occur in Jagatsinghpur, Khurdha, Puri, Ganjam and Nayagarh.
At the same time, dense fog will occur at several places in the state during the next few days. The night temperature is also likely to decrease by 2°C – 4°C brining in a fresh wave of cold.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in five districts of Odisha on Monday and Tuesday. Warning has been issued for Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul and Kalahandi where visibility will drop below 50 meters.
Dry weather will prevail from December 26 to 28. There is a possibility of rain with cloudy weather from December 29. The regional meteorological center has informed that the effects of winter will increase after the next three days and the cold wave will return.
