Heavy Rains

Bhubaneswar: A potential cyclonic circulation is expected to form over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas by June 25, with the possibility of intensifying into a low-pressure system. Although the exact nature of the system is yet to be determined, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for north Odisha districts, indicating heavy rainfall on June 25 and 26.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange warning for North Odisha districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall. Weather expert Sarat Sahu suggests that the potential cyclonic circulation is likely to develop into a low-pressure system, which may bring heavy rainfall to North Odisha and coastal districts.

As per IMD prediction for today, thunderstorms with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam.

It is pertinent to note that heavy rainfall in Jharkhand led to a flood situation in several blocks of Balasore district in Odisha. Water from Galudih in Jharkhand has flowed into the Subarnarekha River, causing flooding in Jaleswar, Basta, Baliapal, and Bhograi blocks. Thousands of people are currently living in flood-affected areas, struggling with the challenging situation.
