Bhubaneswar: The Department of Water Resources has reported the current flood situation in various rivers across Odisha. As of 11:00 AM on Sunday, the water level in River Baitarani at Anandapur is 35.78m, which is in a falling trend, and at Akhuapada, it is 18.54m, also in a falling trend.
The water level in River Jalaka at Mathani is 6.67m, in a falling trend, while in River Subarnarekha, the water level at Jamsholaghat is 51.6m, in a falling trend, and at Rajghat, it is 10.20m, in a rising trend.
A peak flood is expected in River Subarnarekha by 9:00 PM today, with the water level potentially rising to 11.40m. The State Flood Cell is functioning 24/7, closely monitoring the situation. Collectors in Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore have been alerted to expedite evacuation and relief operations as needed.
Senior officials, including Chief Engineers and Basin Managers, are monitoring the flood situation at the ground level in coordination with district administrations. Two Engineers-in-Chief have been deputed to Subarnarekha and Baitarani Basins to supervise flood management.
In Bhadrak, the Minister of Higher Education inspected various sites of Baitarani left embankment, while in Balasore, the Engineer-in-Chief inspected water levels in River Jalaka and River Budhabalanga. In Mayurbhanj, a breach on the right bank of the River Jambhira embankment was closed with sandbags.
District administrations have taken people in low-lying areas to safe locations, and Water Resources functionaries are working closely with district administrations to manage the flood situation.
