Odisha Braces For Thunderstorms And Heavy Rain: IMD Issues Alerts Till Sept 4

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of yellow weather warnings for Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds, accompanied by heavy rainfall, over the next several days.

The monsoon trough is currently passing through Bikaner, Kota, Seoni, Durg, Bhawanipatna, Gopalpur, and extending east-southeastwards into the central Bay of Bengal, according to the IMD mid-day weather bulletin.

A yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorms with lightning, along with surface wind speeds of 30-40 km/h, very likely to occur at one or two places across the following districts on August 31: Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

On September 1, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 km/h, likely to occur in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada districts. Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are forecasted to affect the following districts: Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Nabarangpur.

For September 2, the IMD has again issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty surface winds of 30-40 km/h, likely in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Nabarangpur districts. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected to occur in the following districts: Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

In addition to the warnings for the coming days, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning, accompanied by gusty surface winds of 30-40 km/h, which are very likely to affect one or two places over various districts in Odisha until September 4.

Residents in the affected districts are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions against possible weather disruptions, including strong winds, rainfall, and lightning.
