Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a slew of initiatives in the state budget to address distress migration and promote tribal welfare. The government plans to launch DALKHAI, a new initiative aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods and addressing the root causes of distress migration.
The second phase of the Chief Minister’s Tribal Livelihood Mission (MMJJM 2.0) will be implemented from 2026-27, targeting 1.6 lakh tribal families in the first year and 8 lakh families over the next five years. An outlay of Rs 150 crore has been proposed for MMJJM.
Other key allocations include Rs 326 crore for Dharti Aba Janjatiya Gram Awadh Abhiyan, Rs 1495 crore for Vasudha Yojana, and Rs 7000 crore for Jal Jeevan Mission. A new scheme, State Support for Rural Piped Water Supply Projects, will be introduced with an allocation of Rs 800 crore to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to rural households.
The state government aims to provide clean and safe drinking water to all rural households by March 2027. Odisha has been recognized as the best performing state for implementing Adi Karma Yogi Abhiyan, with Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts receiving awards for district-level performance.
