Bhubaneswar: Startling facts have come to light after the death of at least 12 people in an accident in Odisha’s Ganjam district in the wee hours of Monday. It has come to light that the private bus involved in the head-on collision with an OSRTC bus was running without a night permit and insurance.
Speaking to the media, Ganjam RTO Manas Sahu said that though the private bus looks fit, it is damaged. Moreover, the bus does not have a permit to ply during the night. The insurance of the bus, which was 25-year-old, has also expired, Sahu added.
According to the RTO, a complaint has been registered with the police in this condition and the owner of the vehicle is responsible for the horrific accident.
It has been found that the private bus was registered on March 26, 1998, and its fitness is valid up to November 24, 2023. On the other hand, the insurance of the bus expired on April 13, 2023.
