Bhubaneswar: The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Concession Agreement between the Government of Odisha and JSW Utkal Steel Limited for the development of a captive jetty at Jatadhar Muhan in Jagatsinghpur district.
The Cabinet also authorized the signing of the agreement and entrusted the Odisha Maritime Board with the responsibility of overseeing the jetty’s progress, operations, and implementation.
The proposed all-weather, greenfield, multi-cargo captive jetty will serve as a vital logistics node for JSW Utkal Steel’s integrated steel plant and captive power project in the region.
This strategic infrastructure is expected to enhance cargo handling capacity, stimulate port-led industrial development, and create significant employment opportunities in the state.
The project received in-principle approval in 2018 following the High-Level Clearance Authority’s nod in 2017 for the steel plant proposal.
Recognizing the jetty’s importance for supporting industrial expansion and its potential impact on Odisha’s socio-economic development, the Commerce & Transport Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JSW Utkal Steel Ltd for the captive facility.
In line with the Odisha Port Policy 2022, the jetty aims to improve port-linked infrastructure, attract industrial investments, and boost the state’s maritime logistics ecosystem. The development is also projected to generate direct and indirect employment for approximately 3,450 individuals, while significantly increasing state revenue.
The Odisha Maritime Board, the designated authority for maritime development in the state, will ensure effective monitoring and timely operationalization of the project.
The cabinet’s clearance marks a key milestone in Odisha’s continued efforts to promote port-based industrialization and expand infrastructure to support its fast-growing steel and allied sectors.
