Odisha Cabinet

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Cabinet has granted approval to amendments in the Odisha Labour Service (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2019.

The changes primarily benefit Assistant Labour Officers (ALO) and Rural Labour Inspectors (RLI) appointed before the rules came into force in 2019.

Under the approved amendments, these officers will receive exemption from the departmental examination. This will enable them to get regularized in the Odisha Labour Service and become eligible for promotion to higher posts in the cadre.

The move is expected to resolve long-pending issues related to career progression for experienced officers who joined prior to the introduction of the 2019 rules. Additionally, the Cabinet has updated the syllabus in the Appendix, Part-I (Law), Paper-I: General Law of the rules to align with India’s new criminal laws. The following replacements have been made:

“The Indian Penal Code, 1860” replaced by “Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023”

“The Indian Evidence Act, 1872” replaced by “Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023”

“The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973” replaced by “Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023”

These updates ensure that officers in the Labour Service are trained and examined as per the contemporary legal framework that came into effect across the country
