Bhubaneswar: In a move aimed at improving policing and enhancing service delivery, the Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to bifurcate the existing Mayurbhanj Police District and create a new police district headquartered at Rairangpur.
The newly formed Rairangpur Police District will be carved out to ensure more effective law enforcement, faster administrative response, and improved public access to police services across the region.
The Rairangpur Police District will comprise two Sub-Divisional Police Offices (SDPOs)—Rairangpur and Karanjia—and a total of 14 police stations, namely: Rairangpur, Rairangpur Town, Badampahada, Gorumahisani, Bisoi, Tiring, Bahalda, Jamda, Karanjia, Thakurmunda, Mahuladiha, Raruan, Ghagarbeda, and Jashipur.
Additionally, the district will include five police outposts and two beat houses, ensuring deeper reach of police presence in remote areas.
The bifurcation is expected to reduce administrative burden on the existing Mayurbhanj Police District and allow for more focused policing across both districts, especially in tribal-dominated and geographically diverse regions like Rairangpur and Karanjia.
