Odisha Cabinet Nods Rs 12.56 Cr Gangadhar Meher Lift Canal System
**Bhubaneswar: ** Odisha Cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday afternoon accorded seal of approval to three significant proposals, including the Gangadhar Meher Lift Canal System for Bargarh district in western region of the State.
Briefing media after the Cabinet meeting, Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout said, “The estimated cost of the Gangadhar Meher Lift Canal System project is Rs 1246.56 crores and will be completed within a period of five years and the project will be executed through EPC mode.”
He also informed that the project has been envisaged to provide irrigation to both rainfed and drought prone areas of about 25,600 Ha in Bijepur, Sohela and Barpali blocks of Bargarh district. On completion of the project, irrigation will be provided to 32,000 Ha in Khariff and Rabi season.
It was also briefed that the water will be drawn from Hirakud Dam through Bargarh Main Canal. While the water will be lifted through a rising main of about 17.64 km into the Barihapali secondary structure, water will be delivered to the command area from the secondary structure through a mix of gravity and pressured underground pipe system with outlets for every 4 Ha/1 Ha land parcels. Micro irrigation system will be adopted in about 30% of the total command area.
