Odisha Cabinet Nods Telecom Infrastructure Policy-2017

**Bhubaneswar: ** Odisha Cabinet on Tuesday (September 5) accorded seal of approval to eight important proposals including State Government’s recent decision of implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendation for pay hike of the in-service employees and pensioners of the State Government and also the new agreement with the IOCL relating to the Paradip Refinery.

Prominent among the decisions is that of ‘Mobile Towers, Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) and Related Telecom Infrastructure Policy-2017’.

As per the press note released on the occasion, “Special provisions have been made in this policy for KBK and LWE affected areas. It will help in establishment of modern telecommunication infrastructure to provide high speed internet in rural areas. It will also improve terrestrial Broadband connectivity in both urban and rural areas.”

“There is provision of dealing with public grievances relating to installation of towers and issues related to Telecom Infrastructure in this Policy through District Level Telecom Committee and State Level Telecom Committee,” the press note added.

The Cabinet also gave its nod to ‘Food and Procurement Policy for Kharif Marketing Season 2017-18’. As per the press brief, a tentative target of 36 lakh metric tonne in terms of rice has been fixed (in terms of paddy this comes to around 53 lakh metric tonne). Kharif paddy will be procured during period from November 2017 to April 2018 and Rabi paddy during May and June 2018.
