Bhubaneswar: Following the last meeting of the Odisha Cabinet in a virtual mode on Monday, the government decided to write to recommend the dissolution of the 16th Legislative Assembly. The decision comes a day before the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik chaired the Cabinet meeting in virtual mode in Bhubaneswar.
The main agenda of the Cabinet meeting was to recommend the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly as the election process is over. The Cabinet decided that it should inform the Governor about the completion of the BJD government’s tenure and recommend the dissolution of the Assembly.
This formality is done before the declaration of election results. According to the provisions in the Constitution, the state Cabinet will pass a resolution to dissolve the assembly after the declaration of election results. Subsequently, the Cabinet members will hand over their resignation letters to the Chief Minister, who will recommend the Governor to dissolve the Assembly for the new government.
