Odisha: Car Overturns Into Canal In Puri, 5 Dead, 2 Critical

Puri: As many as five persons including two minors were killed and 2 others were grievously injured after the car in which they were travelling, turned turtle at Bhailipur near Sukal in the district here on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as K. Krishna (50), Jagadish (40), K.Yamabati (40), Abnan (7) and Yamabati (5).

The two others who are injured have been admitted to Chandanpur hospital.

As per sources, a family from Ganjam’s Patrapur block were on their way to Puri for immersion of ashes and to visit the holy Jagannath Temple when the incident took place. The driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheels and it slipped off the road overturning into a canal.

Police officials suspect that the driver might have dozed off that caused the road mishap.

The bodies of five persons who died on the spot, was fished out by fire services personnel. The grievously injured persons were also rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Shocked at the tragic incident, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his deep grief at the death of 5 persons in the road accident.

Conveying his deep sympathy to the bereaved families, the CM announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs each to the next of the kin of the victims.
